Is masturbation a sin?

I am waiting to have sex until I am married. As a young Christian woman of 19, temptation is difficult enough to deal with & the bible doesn't explicitly talk about masturbation; is it a sin? Does it hurt our relationship with God or prevent us from growing in our walk with the Lord? Opinions, thoughts, advice welcome!

I question this too! I have no idea. If you think about it, masturbation usually involves lustful thoughts, and some people masturbate to porn. So although it's not talked about in the bible, I guess we can infer that it would be wrong to masturbate if people will give in to watching porn, thinking lustfully, etc. If people were to overcome these, idk if that means masturbation is not a sin. I wish I knew Jesus' thoughts on this topic

Does masturbation hurt your relationship with God? Only you have the answer to that! For most people I know, the answer is no; for some, it is yes. For the latter group, the sin comes from the excess of or obsession with masturbation - these are usually males with sex addictions, whose masturbation is accompanied by uncontrolled porn use.

God gives us beautiful, sexual bodies, and if you want to enjoy that in a healthy, safe way through masturbation, go for it. Sexuality and spirituality are not opposing forces. :)

It boils down to a self control issue. Some it's overeating, some it's masturbation, or holding your tongue. Mastering your sin filled nature is the walk. We all are on our own paths, and I can't look at you and judge because you may be convicted of something I am not.

I was convicted to get off of FB. It was producing envy and jealousy and anger. I looked at it and just walked away. Do I think all Christians should get off FB, no but for my walk with Christ I knew he was calling me to.

God loves you no matter what, we all at some point lean into his mercy while dealing with sin. But saying it's not sin is rationalization.

I think as long as lust and porn aren't in the equation then it's not a sin; if you use porn or are lusting or thinking of something/someone in particular then yes it's a sin. As far as it messing up your relationship with our father I think you're fine but I think that's really a question you have to answer yourselve. God loves us unconditionally and no matter what is going to forgive us..not saying to go ahead and do whatever you want to but just keep in mind how you want your relationship with him to be.

If you start lusting after the really hot guy in your class or use porn then yeah but if it's just some me time then I don't think so. God made us in a way so we can enjoy ourselves. But yes some people can't have pleasure without lust.

Yes because it comes with sexual thoughts/ watching porn... Pray when you feel like this, take a walk so you have nothing to tempt you, listen to Christian music... And so on. All this will anger the root of all evil!

Well, God made our bodies in such a way that when we're young especially, or sex drives are there, and high. 
I figure if He didnt want us doing ANYTHING, He wouldnt have made us that way. 
And yes, i know, the flesh is sinful, but He still gave it to us. We've gotta work with our physical impulses & imperatives somehow. Its generally considered to be a bad thing to indulge in gluttony (at least if youre Catholic), but starving yourself isnt good either. If that makes any sense. 
There are totally better examples, but im tired & cant think of a better one right this second.

Youre already remaining celibate/a virgin. Thats more than most of us manage (i certainly wouldnt even be willing to try). Dont sweat the small stuff :)

I don't think it's sex with yourself.  Many girls orgasm from riding a rollercoaster...are they having sex with the rollercoaster? No.  They're bodies are highly sensitive.  It's really whats in your heart that God cares about.  Is what's in your heart while you're masterbating up to God's standards? I've prayed about this A LOT and I can tell you it's not for me.  So, as for me and my house I choose to serve the Lord and keep my legs as closed as  possible.

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. If your already feeling like you need to ask it may very well be conviction. Although you need to make this decision for your self and not listen to other ppls comments. Ppl have different views, beliefs and ideas. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

The bible tell us not to supply our flesh with sinful things. If we are to stay pure or in other words virgins until marriage then masturbation would be supplying supplication to our flesh. Because our bodies our lusting for sexual desires then masturbating would be giving in to lust.
