This is really neat.  In my sociology class, over ten years ago, they showed us a bell graph.  it showed couples happiness before and after the birth of a child.  what the graph showed, alot like this, was the younger your children in the house, the less happy you were as a couple.  As the children got older, more independent, the couples became happier again. Very cool post.

Interesting article. I think the fact that society puts pressure on people to have kids so everyone feels like it's the norm to have them when you should do what makes you happy and comfortable.

I think it's crazy. I wonder what the overall happiness is in a country like that anyways though? The fact that a death of a partner makes you less sad than a birth of a new life is ridiculous to me

I think it varies depending on the person. I personally suffered from postpartum depression after my son. And to add on to it I had a very stubrun baby who hated sleep. And wouldnt sleep more then 15-20 minutes and was up for hours at a time. The sleep deprivation and the depression took a serious toll on my relationship. I was completely miserable the first few months. I felt alone like people would judge me and think I was a horrible person for not being over joyed with my new baby. Over all it was a very hard time for me, things fell into place eventually after he started sleeping a lil more. I think a lot women have a hard time but are aftaid to admit it.

i am actually disgusted by this. motherhood is hard dont get me wrong but i have been the happiest since my 3 yearold was born. at the time of his birth i was also going through a divorce with his father. my son was the only thing that lit up my day and kept me going. i will never put my unhappiness on my children they are precious gifts from God

Certainly doesn't surprise me - just the thought of having a kid would have me ready to give up on life.
