Should I buy an iPad or a new laptop for college?

I'm going into my first year of college (full-time) in the fall, and I was wondering what would be more useful: an iPad, or a new laptop? I say new, because I already have an HP PC, but I've had it for about 5 years now and it's become very slow, and has more personal documents/pictures on it than I would like for school. Plus, it's very large & heavy, and I heard people bring their laptops to school a lot. If you have any info or advice on what supplies to bring, and what college classes will be like (I understand every college is different), I would greatly appreciate it❤️ Thank you in advance!
