Do you like the name Dahlia for a girl?

I love the name and I actually coined my lifelong bestfriend with that as a nickname when we were small. (It was kind of a play on her real name cause it's very similar) and now I want to name my daughter after her with that name so it has a lot of special meaning to her and I. Whenever anybody asks what I have for names, I tell them that and they flash me a dirty look and say "Ew like the black Dahlia murder story?" Especially MIL being the rudest about it, saying its ugly and what not and its very frustrating. So honestly, do you ladies like the name and does it remind you of the murder story also? The last thing I want to do is give my beautiful child a name that is associated with a very gruesome murder but that's not the first thing that comes to MY mind, I think of the dahlia flower..
