When to tip...

Just curious when everyone tips?

I always tip at restaurants. Deliveries. Lawn/house services. Stuff like that.
My mother always made me run tips and drinks out to the guys cutting our grass, so I still do stuff like that when people come to my house now.

But today I had people install direct tv, and I wanted to tip but had no cash at all, so I feel pretty bad..

Do y'all tip when people do stuff around your house? Or only food services?

I used to work for Directv. It is not expected that you tip your installer or tech. Trust me, they get paid well enough and are not depending on or expecting your tips.

The best thing you can do for them is, if you are satisfied with their work, give them positive feedback when you receive the call/email for the survey about their visit.

I hate tipping. I do because it's expected but to me it's the most annoying practice. It would be SO nice if tipping could just be a gesture that you do for someone who has provided you with exceptional service and kindness but instead it's normal to give anyone a tip regardless of whether they exceeded your expectations or not. Again, I hate it.

I tip at restaurants because waitress's live off of their tips. I was a waitress, you make shit money, I made roughly $185 every 2 weeks, working full time 6 days a week. Now my dad spent his whole life installing direct TV & dish, and they make a good amount of money so it is Not necessary to tip. Unless you want to, then they obviously appreciate it so much. But really the best thing you can do is be kind to them and maybe offer a cold drink if its hot, or a hot drink if its cold! And tattoos well they charge so much money  I wouldn't tip cause its already expensive. But that's just me.
