Negative preg test

I am week post ovulation and I took a pregnancy test today, due to start my period on Monday. I have been checking my cervical position and firmness and after I ovulated. It was low and very hard. Since the 15th it has been low and hard and very tight so intercourse has been quite uncomfortable. But today when I checked I was high and soft and I thought omgosh I'm pregnant this is a good sign. But the pregnancy test said negative and I am so bummed. Maybe it was to early to test. Maybe I'm not pregnant but I can't help but feel like I lost something :(
