Disrespectful husband... Divorce?

My husband lately, past 6 months has been disrespectful to me and our 2 year old son. He will cuss at me in front of our child, call me stupid.... And more. Now I've noticed he gets rough with out son. He says that's the way he was raised. I was raised by getting beat on but to me this is terrible. He will only grab him
By his arm to pick him up when he's bad. To me, that isn't very nice. Would you leave your husband over these things? What can. I do/say to get through to him?

If a well trained athlete can cause severe damage to their arm from throwing a ball... What do you think can happen to a still growing child when their shoulder, or wrist is forced to carry the weight of their entire body!?

Mothers!!!!! Our job as a mother (fathers too if you are in the opposite situation) is to protect our children! To do everything in our power to keep them safe and healthy. Watching your child be abused, or knowing it's happening, and not doing anything, makes you an accessory to child abuse. Just like being present at something like a murder, and not reporting it make you guilty. Trust me, I know it's hard, and scary. I know how terrible it feels to have the person you love the one you chose to share your life with, turn into a monster. But you need to put your child's wellbeing above your wants and wishes.

OP, please seek help. Maybe he's going through something and needs therapy, maybe he needs a healthy outlet for misplaced anger. But please, do not allow him to harm your child again. Ask him to get help, and if he refuses, get your child out of their, it only gets worse and the emotional scars from abuse last a lifetime.

Sit him down and let him know that name calling and grabbing on the child are unacceptable. He needs to control himself. The choice is yours and you know your situation better then anyone. I would seek counseling though, it'll help you figure out how to cope with the situation and your choices.

There are ways to try and work on marital problems before choosing divorce. There should at least be some attempt at making it work before jumping for the papers.

I wouldn't jump right to divorce. Have you talked to him about what changed? You said this is new behavior. What about counseling. You mention "rough" without any context. Rough to you may be different from rough to him.

Put your foot down. If my husband handled our daughter that way he'd get his was thrown out. I don't believe in being hateful and aggressive like that with children. There's a difference between discipline and taking it too far

All marriages have there rough times! The only thing you can do is protect yourself & your 2 year old son. Your child is the most precious thing in your life & u wouldn't want anything to happen to him. Shit he's only 2 years old he's still a baby. Your husband needs to realize that & protect both of you instead of putting you down in front of him. Girl I hope everything works out for you just remember your child is to young to defend hisself so you have to do that for him!

All marriages have rough patches. If you feel that's he's abusive though, it may be time to take your son and walk away. If you feel it's safe to stay there are resources. I'd look into couples counseling to start. Many offices will offer sliding scale payment options. Try calling around.  A good therapist may also refer out to an anger management group.

As for your history of abusive parenting, many areas offer free/low cost parenting classes. Even if you're already a great parent, they may offer helpful advice on disciplin and ending the cycle of abuse, and/or link you with other help. I don't mean this in a rude way at all but you might get better answers in one of the relationship groups. Good luck.
