Selfishness?

Will it be selfish of me to ask my SO & his parents if I could throw a baby shower? I am willing to put it whatever needs to such as the food & treats, etc.. Doesn't have to be a huge thing. No one has ever mentioned having one and I'm due in a couple of months with my first and I'm having a girl and the thought of having one makes me smile. But time ifs flying out the window. I feel as though maybe they don't have time to put one together and that if I ask it'll be too much.
