irregular while TTC

So I've been irregular all my life. Get periods 3 to 4 times a year on a good year lol. Doctor put me on BC to regulate but I feel like that contradicts the fact that I'm trying to get pregnant. Anyone have this experience? Or know why this would be a way to conceive? Even tho I'm taking BC can I still get pregnant since I'm irregular? Ugh this is so discouraging 😔😔
