Periods/cramps after stopping birth control?

So I went to the doctors today but she was absolutely no help, so I'm wondering if any of you have had this problem. 
I stopped my BC in March and it took until June to get my period. It seemed normal and around the same time in July I got it again. August rolls around and it never comes. I think I ovulated mid July and ever since then I've been having cramps. Not too horrible but definitely noticeable. My doctor said it was a result of going off the BC but I can't help but think it's something else.
 Has anyone else had this problem? Cramps for a month and a half plus a few other symptoms I thought might've been related to pregnancy

I had just stopped mine in June, I skipped July's period and I just got it again last week.  I have had several cramps, as if I'm supposed to be on my period but I wasn't.  I asked my OBGYN about this and she said that it is normal for you to cramp and skip at least one period a month after going off your birth control.
