Pap smear to get Birth control?" /> I am 17 and I have not had sex but will be in the near future and want to be prepared but I was wondering if you had to get a Pap smear before a doctor would prescribe birth control. I live in Texas ( I don't know if that's a factor or not) and my mother would be with me.

Where I live yo don't get a Pap smear until 21. Just a pelvis exam. But for birth control they shouldn't need to do that unless you're showing signs of any STD/STI.

I lived in Indiana and I did receive a Pap smear prior to receiving birth control when I was your age. I also was not sexually active at the time.

Pap smears sound much scarier than they actually are. It is a really good test that can help make sure your ph levels are balanced and check to make sure that everything is good with your lady health. Also, at your age, they are not required every year, so it will be infrequent testing.

I think they really only use Pap smear test to test for some cancers (The nurse let me do it myself in a bathroom so I would feel more comfortable). Anyway, that was during my physical but when I saw the doctor a different time and wanted to be on the birth control pill, he just wrote me a prescription.

I didn't have to, I was 19 and a virgin. Then I went back when I was 20 and even though I was no longer a virgin they didn't give me one bc I was under 21. I'm 21 now though and am going for my first full exam tomorrow, pap smear and everything😧

You may have to. A lot of times though, if you're not sexually active, they won't do one. The first time I got birth control I was 16 and went to a planned parenthood, and just talked to the doctor for a while and she wrote me a prescription.
