Birth control options!!

I have recently been exploring different options for birth control, besides the good old fashioned pill!!

I was on the pill in the past, it threw my cycle all out of wack, I bled when I wasn't suppose to and didn't when I was, and on top of that... I got pregnant (even though I took the pill religiously). My pregnancy ended in spontaneous abortion and since then I have tried the depo shot. 

I loved it while I was getting it, only reason being, no periods. I continued the depo for nine months and then realized the adverse effects it was producing. I gained a significant amount of weight, had terrible mood swings and felt a little depressed. So needless to say, I stopped taking it. It took a year and a half for my cycle to come back and now it is back, regular and much lighter than before. 

I've heard a lot about the Nuva Ring, but I really feel this isn't going to be a fit for me. Anything I have to insert myself and remove myself, leaves too much room for error. 

What are some methods you guys use?

What have you tried in the past that DIDNT work and why? 

What would you suggest?

I am a nursing student and I like to be educated, not only from a book, but I like to hear what others have to say too!! I want to be prepared when I sit to talk with my GYN.
