When to pump?

My daughter is 10 days old and I am breasr feeding. My husband would like to feed her once she can start taking a bottle in a few weeks. I'm really confused on when to start pumping. Do I start storing up now? Don't wait until 4 weeks and pump whenever my husband plans on giving her a bottle?

Around two weeks I started to pump after a morning feeding so my husband could feed her a bottle in the afternoon. I haven't started to build a supply yet although everyone is encouraging me to. Truth is I love breast feeding and I want to be selfish.

I suggest pumping immediately, even if you don't introduce the bottle for a while longer. It's so nice to build a stash up. It will enable you to take naps while your husband feeds her.. Or even run an errand or two. Time is so valuable!

My son is 5 days old and I started pumping to relieve pressure from engorgement. I just do a few minutes after I nurse if he hasn't emptied the breast or didn't make it to the other side (I just do about 5 min to take the edge off in that case) I've been freezing that so I when he's ready for a bottle we have some saved up. Everything I've read has said that pumping in this manner won't affect supply, but can prevent mastitis. So you could pump for short periods and save up or add a full pumping session if you feel you need to increase your supply for bottle feeding. Just depends on your situation.

If you start pumping now you might have an over supply problem. Which might be fine if you need to freeze milk if not... I would wait until your supply evens out and then start pumping.

I started pumping two weeks pp it just made it so much easier so my husband could feed her or my mom if i needed to run an errand, go the gym etc also now 10 weeks pp and have decent supply frozen which is nice to have a back up or to have when o start to phase out breastfeeding/ pumping

I pumped after feeding him and started a stash which has helped for when I have to leave him with my mom. Or when my hubby wants to bond with him. Kinda glad I did because I've had to leave him for emergencies and don't have to worry about him being fed.

Nothing wrong with pumping ahead but I read somewhere not to go overboard with it. And honestly (sorry Prego brain) I can't remember why.
