Does getting a root canal and crown done hurt?

Question

I'm thinking of going next Wednesday to get my root canal and crown done just to get it out the way. But the question is does it hurt if it does how bad and what should I do before and after. This will be my first root canal and crown.

I have had 6 root canals and 5 crowns. .. 
I actually fell asleep... during all of them. I dont know what it is.. there is just something about laying in that chair that makes me sleepy.
My dentist shoots the novacane in my gums... next thing you know.. I am relaxed, my mouth is wide open, and I fall asleep. He has only had to wake me maybe 3 times due to snorning too loud..lol..
He has been my dentist for 26 years.. I guess I trust him and feel comfortable with him.
I am a strange person. ;)

I didn't think it hurt any more than having a cavity filled

I have had 4 done, the second go round I wasn't even numb all the way and it still wasn't too awful... The other 3 times I fell asleep... You'll be fine (:

If you feel discomfort alert your dentist. Unless you have a large access you shouldn't have a problem.

It's not to bad I've had 3 done. They numb you before they start to take the root ot you can't feel a thing. The only thing I would say is afterwards I would take the next day off bc talking is kind of difficult. There is some pain afterwards normally ib profen or Advil will help. And you can always put ice on you jaw that's what I did with mine. Good luck! You'll be just fine!

Depends but be open with the doc with any pain if they are good at their job they will listion

It depends on how deep the tooth is damaged. It hurts a bit but u need not be scared as they give some kind of anaesthesia before doing it so almost no pain is experienced.
