Metallic Taste! Help!

Not sure what can be causing this.. But I have a metallic taste in my mouth. Haven't taken a pregnancy test, but I read this is a symptom. Found a list online and ruled out everything but poor oral hygenie (I do brush and stuff everyday, but only reason I could think of was my permanent retainers, but I've had them for years, and nothing like this occurred before) and pregnancy. How common is this, and should I take a pregnancy test? Help?!
