Headed to the specialist

So we have been trying for a year in a half and we have just finished up 6 months on clomid. My doctors are now sending me to the fertility specialist my apointment is Monday. I don't really know what to expect. The bad part is my husband leaves for basic at the end of October so they are wanting to try IUI wile he is gone.. Any success stories? I'm also on 2,000 mg of metformin. I just don't know what to expect for this new part in our journey.
