When to see a fertility specialist?

I'm 36 and my husband is 39...we started TTC and by month 6 my OB decided to do some tests on me (blood test and the dye test) all came out normal...she tested my husband and his sperm came back great. Then in month 8 we got pregnant but then had a miscarriage at about 8 weeks along. I recovered and have had 3 cycles since then.  My cycles were always really consistent 29-31 days long. This month it's day 34 today and I was certain this was it but I'm starting to cramp and my period is starting to come...I can feel it 😒.  How many more months should we wait before seeing a fertility dr? I am just so frustrated, it just doesn't seem to be happening...at what point have people made the decision to see a specialist?

If go as soon as possible. I have low amh one month after that test result I have started ivf. Don't waste time!

I am 38 and I was told after 6 months go get the tests which sounds like you did. But after 1 yr. I would say see a specialist. My ob GYN is actually a fertility specialist because I was planning on killing two birds with one stone.

If I were you I wouldn't wait, just go. I asked my ob last summer when I was almost 36 and she told me to keep trying. We did and nothing happened. I finally got her to refer me this summer at almost 37 and found out I have a hormone issue. Had I gone last year I'd probably have a baby by now! My advice is listen to your gut and go if you're feeling like you should. I feel good to finally be working with people that can help. Good luck!

We waited a year. My OB recommended going to an RMA clinic (reproductive Medicine) we are just starting the testing phase. It may depend on your insurance. I have great insurance that will cover everything but only if you have been trying 1 year if you are over 35, trying 2 years if you are under.

We waited until we had been trying "officially" for a year, but really it was more like 18 months (as I stopped the pill 6 months before we really started trying to make it happen). I wish we had started this process much sooner!! My doctors are fantastic, and I have learned so much about the process of just how difficult it is to make a baby!! We had our first IUI this month. Keeping my fingers crossed that we get a positive result when I test next week!!!

We had been trying for 13months with a miscarriage in March. My dr told me (in August) that if we weren't pregnant by the first of the year they would look into doing some tests. They were not that concerned since I was able to get pregnant. I also have 3 other children. ( I am 37) I think it depends on your situation and what your dr is comfortable with. Good luck!
