FTM: Son Has a Cold

Ok, a little nervous...first time my son has been sick. He's 8w. He's sneezing, coughing, and sounds generally congested. No fever though so I believe it's a cold rather than flu.

What can I give him to treat the symptoms? Make him more comfortable. He's so young for all the medications. Silly question - I can just literally call the doctor to ask? I don't have to make an appointment for my son do I? First time, sorry if my question is ignorant. Worried new momma here. Tia.

My sister gets upset all the time that the doc always tells her it's a cold and to wait it out. Unless he starts to have a hard time breathing or runs a favor I'd say stick it out. A humidifier, saline nose drops, and a nose sucker are probably your best tools to get him some relief. The Johnson and Johnson vapor bath would probably help too. Good luck!

Take him to the doctor. Babies that young are more susceptible to whooping cough as he would have only had his first round of injections and his immunity won't be built up yet (assuming you vaccinate). It's better to be safe, take him to the doctors. Even if it is just a cold.

Talk to your child's doctor, you need a professional opinion

All 3 of my babies got colds at 2 weeks old. I just made sure to auction their noses and feed them a lot. I'm one of those moms who rarely calls or goes to the doctor other than well child check ups.You don't have to make an appointment with a doctor. You can just call and talk to a nurse. I hope your little one feels better soon. It's sad to see them sick.

Most medical places in the U.S. now have an on call nurse that you can call for those kinds of questions, you'd have to find the number, though.
