UPDATES?

Question

Anyone have any updates they would like to share about their baby(babies)? Progress? Coming home stories? Milestones they've reached in the NICU?

My daughter was born at 4lbs even and hit her low of 3.5lbs. She is 6 weeks old today and weighed 6lbs5.5oz at her pediatrician's appointment. Her due date is about two weeks away. She's been home from the NICU for about a week and is going strong. It's hard to explain to mothers of term babies that every ounce counts!

This was my little Tommy when he decided to come 6 weeks early at 34 weeks. I had placental abruption so had to have an emergency c section. He had a lot of problems with his lungs and was given a life saving operation at day 2. He was 4 pound 12oz. He was in NICU for 4 weeks. 
And here is Tommy now at 8 and a half months, eating everything in sight, crawling, laughing, cuddling, he's just adorable and he's done so well. He's now 15 pounds so has tripled in weight since his birth. He's doing amazingly.

My wee Kady was born via emergency c section at 34+6. She was 4lb 10oz and was in hospital for two and a half weeks. She's now 9 weeks old and seems so huge to me now! I was so excited to get her into newborn size clothes! I get a bit confused with milestones though for when she should be going from her birth age and when to use her corrected age...

Hello ladies. My son and daughter just hit 2 months. They are both on hi Flo nasal cans. My son is down to 1liter so they tried to give him a bottle today. He had a new nurse so she didn't wait for me which makes me sad. He took about 10ccs then was over it. My daughter is on 4liters and will try when she is down. They both have started to wear clothes!!! That is a giant milestone for hitting 1500 grams or 3.5 lbs. my son is now 3.8. At this rate they may be home before our nov 13 due date.

After nearly 2 months of good progress on CPAP, Marcus started to deteriorate rapidly 2 weeks ago. They thought it was his heart defect so transferred him to a bigger hospital with pediatric surgeons. Turns out, his heart is still relatively stable - it's his lungs again - his pulmonary hypertension is back & severe. He had to be re-intubated & put back on all the meds he was on when he was first born (4 months ago). We watched him crash multiple times last week but the amazing doctors & nurses here managed to keep him alive. They think he'll need long-term respiratory support and would like to put in a trach once he's more stable. We're hoping the trach will be a path towards taking him home, where he can grow until he's big enough for the heart surgery.

I have to say, I'm the mom of a term baby born at 39 weeks weighing 7 pounds 10 oz.. & I know exactly how it feels to count every single ounce & looking at the scale in hopes of a gain instead of a loss. Not all term moms have it easy. My baby was in the NICU for 2 months and was diagnosed with failure to thrive. It was hard to see that smaller babies were eating & gaining a lot more than he was being a term baby. He was so behind eating so little amounts. We then realized he wasn't going to eat on his own & agreed to have the surgery to get a G Tube placed in his tummy. He is now growing & gaining weight!
