Is tuna okay to eat during pregnancy? I've been craving a tuna sandwich but not sure if it is safe.

It depends on the type of tuna. Eating lots of fish while pregnant/ nursing = smart babies. Unless that fish has lots of mercury in it. albacore tuna us high in Mercury, look for skipjack or chunk light. To be 100% safe switch to salmon or sardines packed in olive oil. Those are super yummy and full of good DHA and have a lot of calcium as a bonus.

Large tuna is high in mercury so try to eat smaller tuna varieties and limit it to twice a month. Albacore is common in tinned tuna and is very big, whereas skipjack is smaller and contains less mercury so check the labels and buy accordingly. It is true that fish is good for babies but that is the fattier fish like salmon, sardines, etc. they have much higher omega 3 levels than tuna.
