Epidural stop labor?

Question

Was reading that an epidural may have the effect of stalling labor and dilation. Anyone get an epidural and then labor stopped to the point where a c section was nessasary? This is what I'm afraid of and just am curious if this affected anyone on this site? Your insight would be really helpful! Thanks

For this reason I waited as long as possible before getting one. I contracted for about an hour and a half. The nurse asked what I was waiting for, I told her I didn't want to slow the labor. She told me to just get the epidural and not wait. I did, and don't regret it! I slept like a rock for about 2 hours, they woke me up and told me it was time to push. Pain free labor. GET THE EPIDURAL!!

Generally the longer you can labor without an epidural the better. There is a lot of research that shows a much higher incidence of early labor epidurals and c-sections. Side note if you can watch The Business of Being Born on Netflix.

It does the opposite for me! I took FOREVER to progress even with pitocin. 10+ hours of very painful labor and I was still only at a 4, I finally got the epidural, within two hours I was at a 10 and my baby was crowning without having to push at all. The nurse  told me with my second "don't sneeze because she will come out and the doctors not here yet" lol. Pretty much, don't worry yourself about all that. Everyone is different. There's no knowing what will happen

It did the opposite for me! I was induced with cytotec to thin my cervix since I was 9 days past my due date and not dilated at all and I was at 1cm with horrid contractions for 10 hours. My water broke so I got an epidural and two hours later I was dilated to 6! Then two hours later I was 8, then another two hours and I was at 10! It let my body relax. I was so tense during labor that the contractions weren't able to open me up at all.

I have had epidurals with four delivers  and they were all vaginal it slowed it some but nothing major they had to brake my water with the first Three and the last broke on its own c-section is for extreme cases for the most part but not an automatic just because you got and epidural

I got an Epidural because I was past the point of exhaustion and was only 3cm after 10 hours. Epidural gave me rest and contractions did stop getting intense. I don't know if there's a correlation between the two. Then pitocin( our last option) was administered slowly for 15 hrs.

I wouldnt progress at all. Until I got pitocin. And then I progressed slowly. Once I got my epidural I was so relaxed and I was at a 10 before I knew it. So it was the opposite for me.

Yes! Although I didn't end up needing a c section, I had to get pitocin started. I was in labor for 29 hours.

My last two labors it did. With my son the couldn't get the contractions going again so they took my off the epidural. I however can not be given drugs to jump start contractions because I'm a v-bac
