If the relationship is serious enough to call the partner a "significant other" then it's serious enough to invite them as a wedding date, IMO.

I suppose as long as you have a plus one to a wedding, take who ever you want. I'm brought best friends. I won't bring a guy unless we're exclusively dating and serious enough to where he won't freak out (6 months), or if I know the guy is really chill and won't read into it. As long as you're casual and express that to the guy, they should be causal too.  But, I'd never ask to bring a plus one of the bride didn't already give me one unless we were at least 7-10 months into a serious relationship.

I don't know if it's a friends wedding or family big difference. A date is a date. Most people don't want to go alone. So why not bring someone. It doesn't have to be serious. I say family wedding is different only because if it's a new thing the person might feel funny about meeting your family so soon.

Depends. My brother invited his now wife to a family wedding on their first date! We thought he was an idiot (and still I wouldn't recommend it) and felt totally sorry for her. But she got over it and said yes when he proposed 6 months later!

It depends on the wedding. A big wedding versus an intimate wedding changes the amount. My sister had almost 200 people at her wedding. She didn't even realize she had crashers until her and her husband went through their photos. I on the other hand had 35 people at my wedding including wedding party. I took a photo of everyone in attendance and it pisses me off every time I see that one guy my husband's friend brought who she had only been on two dates with and broke up with soon after. He was the only stranger at our intimate wedding that we purposefully made small so that it was only the people we cared most about in attendance.
