Fraternal or Identical???

Question

This is a 9 week ultrasound when I first found out I was having twins. I am now 16.6 weeks and have another appointment in 3 days and by then I will be 17.2 weeks. I have not been told whether I am having fraternal or identical twins yet! Me and my boyfriend think fraternal for sure but my doctor said there is still a possibility of identical! What do you guys think? Fraternal or identical twins?

It's still possible to be both :-) di/di babies (two placentas, two sacs) are 70% the result of hyper ovulation, where you released more than one egg and two sperm fertilized the two eggs. But it's still possible 30% of the time if the one fertilized egg split within the first two days, the split egg would still create a placenta for each baby.

If you have boy/girl like I do, definitely fraternal. If they're boy/boy or girl/girl, you can have a DNA swab done when they're born.

We were told fraternal right away because at 9 weeks they measured one day apart. So crazy what they can tell you!

I would say fraternal as the membrane line is very thick.

I would say fraternal.  It looks like you have separate gestational sacs.  We have known since 5 weeks that we were having fraternal twins.  Your doctor should definitely have told you.  Fraternal twins have separate gestational sacs and placentas.  Identical twins are in the same sac.  Looks like you have a pretty thick membrane between them which leads me to think fraternal.  This is what my 9 week ultrasound looked like.

They can still be identical if they care opposite sexes...blew my mind but true. You won't know until they come out I don't think!
