Why do you wear makeup?

Cristina • Cancer survivor (Hodgkin's lymphoma); hobbyist photographer/editor; Archaeology student at Johns Hopkins University; 22.
I started wearing makeup when I was 15. It included brown eyeliner and black mascara (mom's orders).
I moved on up to eyeshadow and black eyeliner, and at 17, I started wearing a powdered foundation.
This was all because I thought it was fun.
In the last few months while undergoing chemotherapy, I was at a low point in my self-confidence. I had lost most of my eyebrows and hair. So I started over-compensating by wearing more makeup. Now, at almost 22, I do my eyebrows, smokey eyes (usually natural colors), cream foundation, setting powder, bronzer, blush, highlighter, and lips. I'm thinking about starting to wear false eyelashes, too, as my eyelashes still haven't grown back much. I love it so much, and even when I grow back my hair, I think I'll keep doing it. Maybe up the ante by really contouring.
So, I'm just curious about your makeup story. :)
