Can Doppler detect twins?

Question

11 weeks and have my first Doppler heartbeat appointment in 2 days and won't get an ultrasound until after 20 weeks. Can a Doppler at the birth center detect twins? I'm nervous that if I did happen to be carrying twins it would be crazy to not know until half way. Do they still test hgc at 11 weeks? I've never gotten a hgc blood test.

It is our choice to not get an ultrasound until 20ish weeks unless it becomes medically necessary. It is also typical for our birth center. So..anyone know about my original question about detecting twins by Doppler? We are also only choosing to use Doppler for this first appointment and then will be requesting fetoscope (stethoscope ) for heartbeat monitoring from here on out.

I didn't have my first ultrasound until 20 weeks. More common then you would think especially if it's your first pregnancy and everything is going well and your healthy. Now after my first one they found some issues and we had six but baby boy was born healthy as can be.

I am 11 w 2 days. They have not been able to pick up my twins with a Doppler. I have had 4 ultrasounds already (three in office, onein ER). I think you should push for an ultrasound! I know I would!

To answer your question: with only using a Doppler for heart rate  the doc would have to be looking for twins. I get ultrasounds all the time, twice a week at least, so they're easy to detect, but when go to my OB once a month for my general check up they'll use the Doppler to just get the heartbeat and it takes them forever to find both. So I can imagine going in blindly it would be difficult. I understand not getting an ultrasound is a choice, but some twins can be high risk, so if you're really curious I would at least get one ultrasound to be 100% positive

I was about 15 wks before both heartbeats were picked up on a doppler

I had my first ultrasound at 5w2d. Another at 6w2d.  Another at 9w2d and another at 12w2d.  We have our next ultrasound on Monday 14w5d because my doctor said right now it would be too hard for him to find two separate heartbeats with a fetal doppler so to put my mind at ease he's having me do another ultrasound before I see the specialist again Nov 9th.  We have known we were having twins since our first ultrasound at 5 weeks but expected it from the start because at 4-5 weeks my belly was already showing a little and my hcg and progesterone levels were high.

We didn't pick up ont twins at the birth center. Once they find a healthy heartbeat they stop looking. At 14 weeks I was measuring big for dates so I had an early ultrasound that detected them.

theyre going to be putting the doppler on only one spot till they hear a heart beat.  they will not hear two hearbeats at a time.  they have to put it on one side of your belly then the other to find two different hearbeats.   Answer is yes.  will they?? most likely not unless u specifically  have them look for two heart beats.
