If your boss refuses to check your work is it still your fault?

I had to implement a change at work and I did something wrong. I didn't even know I had done anything wrong until today.
Whenever I make a change to something I like to ask my boss to check it as it's always best to find errors early. She always says "I trust you, it's fine I dont need to check" but I do know she hates checking as it's quite long winded. 
My logic is that the error would have been noticed way earlier if she had checked but now she's just told me off for it.

Just to add: I'm not trying to weasel out of claiming fault. I will always admit fault. I genuinely didn't know I had made a mistake and just thought that the reason more than one person checks it before it gets confirmed is to minimise errors.

Okay to clarify:

- I work for an online company so when I make a change it goes live on our website. Making these changes only covers about 20% of my job. Each change is quite small in terms of work but makes a big difference.

- as everything is online things like this should be checked. I always opt for management approval as the other girl I work with is fairly new and wouldn't be able to find errors as well.

- the change in question required something to be removed, which I didn't do. In my defence I wasn't told to remove it, and I have had no previous exposure to that particular element.

I mean yes it's still your fault but she should have checked when you asked then this error would have been avoided. Very mature of you to admit fault and hopefully you will be able to forward from this and you will know next time so the error won't be made again.

I mean it still is but she made it worse by not checking. If she were to have checked then it probably wouldn't have been a big deal about. Sounds like it partially her fault for not checking.

I'm a pharmacist so it's my job to check and double check myself and others. If a mistake is made, it doesn't fall on the tech, it falls to me. That said, not all professions work like this. Your boss is a manager/ supervisor. It's not their job to check your work and all the work of the people below them. Rather than trying to pass the blame, you should be learning from your mistake. It's only going to make you look worse if you're trying to hold someone else accountable for your mistake.

Checked or not..  It's your fault..  It just would have been caught sooner if she did her job.

If it's company policy for your boss to double check work, then she should be. If not, then it's up to you to do your work and double check it. If you have a specific question about how something should be done, she's there to help but in my experience, supervisors are not responsible for checking behind employees after a job is completed.

I think it might help to know what type of work you do and why she'd have to check all your work. It may be time to work on your weak areas and not rely on her checking so much. Obviously it wont always work out as you hoped. You still made the error, it would've been found sooner though.

It depends on your level of responsibility. In my job, if I am unsure about something, my boss will happily check - but she doesn't have time to check all my work.  But if there are occasions when you particularly feel you need help and your boss refuses then I think they should also take some responsibility.
