First ob appointment ... What happens?

Question

My first appointment is at 6 weeks... Just trying to find out if my husband should go or not.

My partner came to my first appointment but all they did was calculate my due date and set up blood tests and an ultrasound so he really didn't need to be there. Most appointments are just for measurements after the first soo my partner just comes to the ultrasounds now since that's the special part 😊

Once I found out I was pregnant I messaged my doctor and told her. She sent a request to get tested at the lab in the clinic.  Once it was confirmed my first appointment was scheduled. They calculated when I was due, made a bunch of orders for other labs, told me the basic testing they do. For example Gestational diabetes rest is done at X week. They did a pap and felt my boobs up. They havens a lot of reading material and a book that covers pregnancy month by month. Because I am older they suggested I do genetic testing and went over some of the tests.  They answered any questions I had and gave me information on the hospital I would be giving birth.

My first appointment was at 6 weeks. I went alone. The dr had me take a pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy, he figured out when I conceived and the estimated due date. I also had an ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy was in the correct spot since I was experiencing cramping. At that stage your ultrasound won't look like a baby. Mine at 6 weeks showed a black sac with a tiny white yolk sac. I didn't get pictures of it to take home. It was only for the doctor to keep on file. Hope that helps, I don't think your husband needs to come. Ask your OB when the appointment is when you'll be able to see a baby on the ultrasound and have your husband come to that one. I believe for me that was our 8-9 week appointment. You'll also be able to hear a heartbeat then too.

Well my first appointment they made me pee on one of their test just to confirm the pregnancy again, they might have you take blood to check your HCG levels. The doctor will talk to you about what you can and can't eat, what exercise you can and can't do. They gave me a little care bag of prenatal samples and printed out list of all those things you can't eat and what over counter prescriptions are safe during pregnancy when feeling ill or for headaches which will come! My husband wasn't with me for this appointment so I would say no need for him to go. Have him go when you get your ultrasounds! Those are special :-)
