But.....will a second line always show up on a opk? Like, do we always have a little of that hormone that would be detected? Or just leading up to ovulation?

For me I don't see any at the beginning of my cycle. But the lh hormone is always in us. It gets darker and darker each day. Then same color or darker indicating lh surge. And in 12-48 hrs an egg will be released. So I use the digital opks that also detect estrogen and that gives me the 4 days of my most fertile window. Good luck

You'll notice it get darker as you get closer. A positive is when the test line is as dark as or darker than the control line.
