How long are you pregnant?

Obviously I'm aware that everyone isn't pregnant the same amount of time and this may be a dumb question, please bare with me. My due date was calculated at 10 months as I'm assuming everyone else's is, so why do people say we're only 9 months pregnant. I know it's roughly an average, but I wanted to see what everyone else thinks. I say 10 months and my sister says 9 months.

There are some months with 5 weeks, not 4. 
38 weeks is 9 months. Pregnancy last "40 weeks" but in all reality it only lasts 38. The 2 extra weeks come from the time between your ovulation and missed period, when you weren't really pregnant. Fetal age is 2 weeks behind what your actual weeks are, for example if your 22 weeks, you're actually 20. People need to do their research.

Technically pregnancy is 40 weeks, which is 10 months. I don't know why people say 9 months. Obviously people go into labor before and after 40 weeks, but, full term is 40 weeks, making it 10 months.

I don't even say months when it comes to pregnancy, I go by weeks lol. Everytime someone asks how many months am I, I respond "34 weeks" 😂

It's 40 weeks so if you divide it by 4, you get ten months, but if you went by calendar months, the months are 2-3 days longer each month, which adds another 18-27 days. So it is 9 months in calendar months and 10 months in weeks. Also, they calculate from the date of your last period and you aren't technically pregnant until ovulation about 2 weeks later, so that's another 2 weeks added.

Some people only consider the time they are pregnant. Like for example if you say 9 months... Weeks 0-4 wouldn't count as a month of pregnancy. Like obviously you're pregnant but you wouldn't say you were one month pregnant until you had completed one month of pregnancy. So when you're 9 months pregnant, you have completed 9 months of pregnancy. Whereas the other way, weeks 0-4 count as the 1st month of pregnancy and therefore weeks 36-40 are considered your 9th month of pregnancy and you give birth when you are just starting the 10th month of pregnancy. I do it the first way just because I like it better. I think that's why people just say weeks mostly now lol.

They give you 40 weeks, starting at the beginning of your period. So you aren't pregnant then, but it's counted in the length of pregnancy for the sake of consistency. And technically, women can conceive at different times, so it's not the same time for everyone. But really, you are actually pregnant for about 9 months.

9 months, but by weeks, so 40 weeks. Baby comes when ever they are ready though. My little arrived at 41 weeks. Some are born before the full 9 months... it's not meant to be that everyone goes full term but most people don't go further than 42 weeks anymore without induction I imagine.

Krysten is right, pregnancy is technically 40 weeks(10months) I think people tend to call it  9 months because USUALLY by the time you find out you're already at least 4 weeks/ 1 month in
