Bleeding after birth?

After giving birth what do you wear those pads/hospital undies for? Is it because you bleed after birth or discharge?? How long does if usually last?

I only bled for 10 days after my 1st. And then I spotted for a few days. But everyone is different and some ladies bleed for 6 weeks. After I quit bleeding I didn't have a period for 3 months. I was breast feeding for a month until my supply dried up and it still took 2 months after before AF returned! Hoping to breast feed for a year this time!

You will bleed after birth. Someone bleed alittle some bleed alot. I bled for the first 6 weeks off and on. I loved the hospital undies. I hated the pads tho!

You bleed and it can last 6+weeks. I used the hosipal pads, and they were awful. Huge, but super bulky and really didn't help matters at all. This time around I decided to buy my own pads for the day, then I bought depends for the night. I rather not worry about my pad moving on me while trying to sleep and waking up to an even bigger mess.

I bled for three weeks with my first. A LOT of people love the hospital pads and underwear but I absolutely hated them. I had my MIL go get me some overnight maxi pads in extra long while i was in the hospital. I plan to bring them this time, just in case I feel similarly.
