Mucus plug?

Hi all,

This is probably a gross question. I'm a first time preggo and I'm 35 weeks. I just started having a small amount of spotting here and here. I've heard once that starts that it won't be extremely long till you lose your mucus plug, but what does that mean? Will you know when you lose it? I'm just trying to prepare if these are signs of early labor?

I'm 35.2 weeks & since I was 34.6 weeks, ive been in premature labor. Monday I lost a little more mucus (at the time I was 2 cm dilated) & the next day, I lost a little more & was slightly even more dilated & put in the hospital for monitoring. I don't know if I'm dilating because of the losing the plug or if it's just a coincidence, I'm a FTM. But I was just letting you know my situation. 😊

You will definitely know when you lose it. I kept thinking I had lost mine, but I really just had extra mucous. Then I had a membrane sweep and lost my mucous plug. It was so obvious it was a massive amount of clear to slight yellow tinted snot with bits of blood. And unfortunately it doesn't mean anything. I lost mine at 39 +5 with my membrane sweep but still had to be induced.
