Periods

Ok so for the past month I've had my period on and off. It alternates between red and brown blood. The last few months I've had really long cycles and then this past month I've had my period for a few days. It stops for a day or two and then comes back. I just found out I have hypothyroidism. Is this what is causing it? Idk what to do.
