When to call for first appointment

Me and my husband are military stationed at fort Bragg. My tricare doesn't kick in until December 1st which is fine with me because we're in Ohio until the 5th anyways & I'll be a little over 6 weeks by then. I've heard awful things about the ob and hospital care on base and how people can't get an appointment for weeks. Should I try and make an appointment now or wait until we get back home to call and make it when my insurance is kicked in. And I've also had a miscarriage a few months ago so I'm scared they also won't get me in a little early. Any military mommas give any insight?

With Tricare prime you can go to outside (non-military) docs talk to your PCM once you get in the DEERS system and Tricare kicks in

Call in advance!!! It doesn't hurt. I'm at fort Carson and have Tricare Prime (can only be seen on base). The standard procedure I've been through so far is you go to the lab, they have you take a test right then, give you a sheet of paper with a number to call for your results the next day. You call, they tell you you're positive and they set up an appt for when you're between 7-12 weeks. 9 times out of 10 they may be overbooked at the time but they say they'll give you a call back with openings. I just continued to call for the next 2 days and they still didn't have openings but just be patient, they called me on the 3rd day with a couple of dates! My first appt is Dec 3, I'll be 7-8 weeks then. They told me no hubby, no friends just bring myself to fill out paperwork, brings any meds I'm taking, and speak with a doctor in a room with other pregnant women. Not as intimate as I'd like it to be but i think it's only like that for the initial visit. I had prenatal vitamins prescribed through the hospital back in July so if you don't already have those they'll give them to you at that first appt to. I know every military hospital may be different but if you do plan to stay with Prime just make the best of it, stay positive! So far I have no complaints. Plus I already have hospital bills so switching to standard wouldn't be smart right now. Lol hope I helped!!

we're in Hawaii. I have my initial paperwork appointment next week and I'll be 6wks5days but idk when ill have my actual first appointment yet. i would say call ASAP since they make you go to lab first to even confirm you're pregnant before getting any type of appointment.

I'm not a military so anymore, but I see no harm in making your appointment asap. I dragged my feet and now I have to wait 1 extra week because they were so busy.
