Ovarian cysts

I was told I have a cyst on my right ovary. After some research I found they can put off the same symptoms as early pregnancy. Well last night I got home from work with a terrible migraine and had right side sharp pains. I had sex this morning and it was painful then I went to the bathroom and there was blood. I have never had pain during sex or bleedi,g after unless on my period. How do I know if this is my period or cause for concern. It's bright red and no clots. The sharp pains come and go. It doesn't feel like a period.
