My Best Friend. A Problem.

Ok, so here's the situation… I'm a teaching assistant and one of my best friends is a maths teacher, we're great friends and have been for nearly 5 years now, but what he doesn't know is that I love him dearly… I know he has his own place, but haven't a clue whether he's attached or not as he never talks about his mega private life… last year we both got really drunk and started talking about us and he said "if only things were different" I don't know if he was referring to the fact that at the time I was attached (I'm not now!!) the fact that our headmaster hates staff dating or the fact he was attached or not… I'm reasonably happy plodding along as friends, but my God, it hurts like hell when he hugs me as a friend and not a girlfriend… what do you suggest?
