6 week wait for sex?

After having my baby (vaginally, with 2 small tears) on the 20th, my doctor told me "nothing vaginally until my 6 week post partum appointment" ... Well, yesterday it just sort of happened and it was only 9 days PP (I have mostly stopped bleeding, just spotting a little) and it didn't hurt at all. If it doesn't hurt and I'm done bleeding, is this okay? And WHEN DO I NEED TO START USING A FORM OF BIRTH CONTROL? We used the pull out method yesterday and I can get on the mini pill at my appointment but do we need to use something between now and then?

9 days! It amazes me how every body is different. There is no way I was comfortable enough to have sex at 9 days.

But there's a reason they want you to wait 6 weeks and it's not only for the tears. The cervix is still open and it can easily get infected. You don't want your uterus to get an infection. My best friend got a uterine infection s week after she had her second baby. And you can die from a bad infection like that.

They tell you to wait because your cervix may not be closed and you can get an infection. You also have a wound from where your placenta detached that needs to heal. I would wait but if don't you need to get on some sort of birth control because you can get pregnant even if your period hasn't returned.

Yes what everyone else is saying is true. Also you can get pregnant almost immediately after giving birth. You are very very fertile afterwards.

My OB said she has seen women come in for their 6 week PP appointment already pregnant again. I also agree with those that mention infection. It's not about feeling uncomfortable during intercourse, but letting your uterus heal where the placenta detached.
