39 weeks and 4 days and no exam from dr

I am 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I go to st Joe hospital and my doctor has done 2 exams my whole pregnancy one when I first went there at 9 weeks and one at 36 weeks and I only have 3 days left and he has not checked to see if I'm dilated or anything like that. is this normal my family says no he should check me every visit from 36 weeks on and he says he believes that my son is still not in the correct position so if I go into labor he will be breach and they won't give me an ultrasound nor a exam...
