Spinal muscular atrophy

Jennifer
My Dr. called yesterday with my first trimester blood work, and it turns out I am a carrier for spinal muscular atrophy. This means although I am not affected by the disease I can pass it to my children. My boyfriend has to go get a blood test because it takes both parents being a carrier in order for the baby to be affected. If he is not a carrier our baby will be fine. If he is also a carrier our baby has a 25% chance of having spinal muscular atrophy, which my doctor said is usually fatal within the first few years. It will be a few weeks before we even get his blood work results but I am so scared and can't stop turning the worst!
