Baby education car seats?

Hi I don't know anything about kids. I heard you have to face a infant away from you in the car until how many months? Is there a special separate car seat for Newborn babies or you use any just adjust the seatbelt. I just wanted to educate myself it's my first time with all of this any knowledgeable websites or any more information I need please let me know

We used an infant car seat until my son outgrew it (according to the instructions on the car seat) then switched to a convertible car seat. It's best to keep them rear facing as long as possible. Mines 2 years old and still rear facing comfortably and he's in the 95th percentile in height for his age. We'll keep him that way until his car seat says he's too big for that seat to rear face safely and then turn him around.

Rear facing is always safer and greatly reduces your child's risk of injury and internal decapitation in the event of an accident.

The legal age to have a baby rear facing is 1 year, in most places. But it is not recommended you forward face until after 2 years as the minimum. You want to keep them rear facing as long as possible. This lowers the impact on the child if you were ever in an accident.

It is recommended that kids be rear facing until age two now. Used to be one. At a year, you might need to get a new car seat. Until then, baby should fit into an infant seat. Go look at car seats at stores. They'll all tell you what size a child will fit in. I would recommend one that connects to a car seat base, that way the car seat can be removed with baby in it, but the base stays safely buckled in. Fire fighters and police officers are supposed to be trained to properly install car seats. Otherwise, when you go home from the hospital, a nurse will check to make sure it is.

The car seat will have weight requirements the baby will need to stay rear facing until it weighs enough to be front facing,  I believe at 20lbs you switch out the car seat for a bigger one

A newborn car seat/carrier is your best option in the beginning. They have a base that stays buckled in and you can take the car seat with you places. Rear facing is recommended for 2 years. There will be weight limits on all car seats so make sure you read them and follow them. Car seats also have expiration dates, typically on the bottom (plastic part). Also if you are ever in an accident with the car seat in the car you're supposed to replace it. Your local fire department or hospital can help you with how to properly install the car seat.
