Wedding planning recourse/tips?

So I'm am trying to create a collection of info and tips for planning my own wedding. I know it will happen soon but no date. I am planning it myself with help from close friend who loves planning these kinds of things! Here are some of my questions starters...What was the break down of your budget? Regrets? Things you'd change having gone through it now? Things you forgot that you wish you would have done. Venue ideas for cheap for about 200...Ect.

I got married and my venue was 2,500. If I could do it again I wouldn't even worry about trying to make it look nice. In the end it's you and your husband day and all that should matter is that your marrying the man of your dreams. But if you need help id be glad too (:

I spent just under 4,000 for my wedding. I made the bouquets and the centerpieces. All from fake flowers. Remember everything is super overpriced because it is for a wedding. We bought our cake from a local bakery which was cheaper than everywhere else I looked. Table cloths and runners you can buy in bulk online.. ebay ect.. I bought my runners chair sashes and chair covers "cheaper then renting for me" for about $90 I needed45 covers and sashes with 10 runners. It just takes time and patience.

My husband and tried to make our wedding as cheap as possible.

Ceremony and reception at winery: $1,000
Food local restaurants: $1,300 
Photographer: $1,500

Those were our biggest expenses.

I bought my flowers at Walmart and spend $200. My maid of honor made the bouquets while my mom and aunt put the rest on the tables. My brother in law cut out wood candles. And I bought center pieces from Goodwill and painted them.  
Pinterest was a life saver!! 
My mom bought burlap and lace and made my table runners!

I bought my dress on sale!! $400

And then I bought all of my Bridemaids dresses on sale at JC Penny's for $25 each. They were all white and I dyed them myself.

Biggest regret: having my location far from where I lived. The closest venue in our budget was 1.5hrs away. We had 130 people RSVPed and 70 showed up. That was a ton of food we wasted.

We also hired a photographer who was just starting. He did an amazing job but was super cheap. I was his first wedding. We paid $200 for him to take pictures the entire time.

I didn't decorate the hall or do center pieces. I said the food was the center piece. 😃 Didn't splurge on anything saved tons of money and never regretted any moment. I hear the more you spend the more regret you have when the day is over. I did my own invites from hobby lobby went dress shopping at David's bridal around Christmas and they had a huge sale. Bought my dress for 200

I actually enjoyed my wedding planning process. I recommend a shorter engagement period, that way you have less time to spend money stress or over think things. We had a simple wedding. We had our closest family members stay at the beach in st Augustine Florida for 4 days. The beach is free to use and the condo we rented was insanely cheap because of the time of year (last week in October. The weather is still amazing and u can lay out but school is in so the prices are way low). I spent the entire day of my wedding laying out on the beach with my hubby. We had a bbq restaurant cater which was roughly $350 for 20 people. The decorations were very simple and the entire wedding (condo and all) cost us about $4500. A lot of places have spaces you can rent for events, ours cost $100. It had a nice inside and outside area by the heated pool so the kids had a blast too. We even ended up jumping in in our wedding outfits. Don't stress and honestly spend as little as you have to. Try looking at Macy's for dresses, not a bridal dress boutique. I bought mine for $200.

Personalize it... Make it have your personal touches so that it's not something any other couple could walk into... We're both teachers so we had chalkboards, pencil cases, and included baseball stuff which is what he coaches at his school.  Also, do what you want not what others want.  It's your day... Others will voice their opinion but do what makes you happy!

I wish I had a coordinator or someone to take the lead.. Instead I decided to handle everything and it was stressful! And no matter what... Stick to the budget! :)

On our wedding everyone commented on the small details, for example we made personalised scrolls on the day thanking people for travelling a long way to be with us. We also had a round top table so my husband and I could chat to our parents and new inlaws properly and enjoy the meal more, the table was in the middle of the room so it wasn't seperate away from guests. We sat family with family they weren't able to see often so they could catch and we sat friends with their friends etc. The bridesmaids all had different but similar style dresses too and we gave our nan and grandma flowers so they would be included too. It's so much fun to plan, try not to get too stressed. My husband and I also took ten minutes here and there to have a walk together so we could enjoy moments just us 😊
