Problem of the day: taxes!

Instead of complaining about a problem, how do WE fix it. What do YOU think would solve it? Another discussion inspired my questions.
Today's problem: taxes. Everyone thinks they pay too much. I just looked up the stat though and around 45% of single and married couples will not pay federal income taxes this year. Apparently that number is down from 2008 when it was 50%.
My husband has a good job and I had a good job until I had my baby. By me not working, we actually might drop a tax bracket this next year and be better off. We're currently paying around 33% in taxes. I think that's an insane amount. Yes, we make good money. But we also worked our asses off in school to get a good education in order to get good jobs. Neither of us finished school till we were 28/29. We have a mountain of student loans (6 figures) that we're paying off aggressively but we're still taxed so high, it'll take us years to pay off those loans. Don't get me wrong, we love our jobs and were fortunate enough to be able to put ourselves through school but we hate the taxes and sometimes feel like we're being punished for our success. But those that don't have good jobs also tend to not have a lot in student loans. Does it all equal out in the end? Is it fair? How do we fix the system? What are your thoughts? Keep it civil!
