So confused on all of this talk

Hi! My husband and I have tried once over the last 3 days and I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time understanding all that I need to be doing and what it all means! I'm in the veterinary medicine field so human medicine sometimes is way more confusing to me lol I don't know when I'm supposed to start taking ovulation tests, I don't know when to start taking pregnancy tests, I'm just so confused!!!! I'm currently on my period. Usually it lasts between 3 to 5 days and I'm on day 3 and it's slowing down really quickly. We tried on the first day of my period (I know it's not easy to conceive during that time due to the length between my periods) but I don't know what I should be doing when it ends. I don't wanna go crazy over it either but then again, just like everyone else, I wanna get pregnant since I am trying.
