What other pain medications are offered?

I have decided I don't want to get an epidural. I just have a reflex that causes my back to move when touched or even the thought of something touching my back. And I really really hate needles. (No hate please as everyone is entitled to their own choices) 
I was just curious what other types of pain relief are offered? Did you choose something besides epidural? Or go all natural? How was your experience with your choice?

They can offer you something to take the edge off. You can't get it past 8cm and it makes you really sleepy. You still feel contractions they just aren't quite as intense. I had an induced Epi free birth, will be delivering my second naturally.

Your body was made to do this and it's nothing you can't handle. Remember that!!

Call your hospital or ask your dr. I read books and what not and thought I was going to do all these different things, but my hospital only offered/offers the standard full on epidural, and iv narcotics. That's it. 😡 I was under the impression that they all would have laughing gas, a TENS unit, a walking epidural, etc. Nope. It was so disappointing.

My 1st son, I had to get an epidural due to thinking they were gonna do a csection. Ended up having him vaginally right after they gave epidural. I've had back problems after that. My 2nd, I made it to the hospital just in time and she was born, so no meds. My 3rd, I was induced and they asked if I wanted to take anything, but I declined. I know they were offering pills of some kind. I'm just someone who hates taking pills if I don't have to and I never again wanna experience an epidural if I don't have to. I remember the pain as intense, but it was over soon and I got to hold my sweet baby.

There's something they're able to put in your IV... not sure what it's called but they gave it to me to take the edge off while I slept (I was in labor for 28 hours) and I want far Enough along to get my epidural.... You'll want to ask your doc what options they offer at the hospital you'll be delivering at. .. Good Luck

I've heard of several options: IV drip like Demerol, laughing gas, or natural techniques like meditation, musical therapy or water therapy.
