Aside from using pre-owned items and breastfeeding, what are some ways to spend less per month on a baby?

Making your own baby food can also help save money. I know that cloth diapers are supposed to be expensive in the beginning But saves in the long run.

I'd say start buying the essentials (diapers, etc) while you're pregnant. Look for deals. Coupon. Buying online is sometimes SO much cheaper than in store. Use Amazon prime (you get a month free and can cancel it before then if you want) and you get free shipping so that's already a ton of money saved. 
Making your own baby food is so much cheaper (and healthier!) as well!

If you sign up for diapers.com they have a code where you get 20% off for three months on diaper sizes nb 1 & 2. And free two day shipping on orders over $50 (easy to do if you order cases). Sometimes they also have special deals and coupons that you can stack. I loved it since I live in a rural area and the nearest store is a 20 minute drive away. And you can go through Ebayes and earn cash back on your purchase. I did find that once you hit certain sizes (like pampers size 3-4) it's just as cheap to get them at stores like Walmart.

Buy on sale and coupon. Not sure where you are but right now Walgreens has a buy one get one free deal on their generic (store brand) diapers and wipes.

Only get what baby needs, and what baby needs at that time. There is a lot of "fluff" products out there that aren't real needs. Also if baby isnt going to need it for 6-12 months, don't worry about having it ahead of time. Buy it as its age appropriate, so spending is spread out, not all up front.

Look into rewards programs at stores.

Cloth diapers save about $2000 per child over their "diapering life".... It's several hundred dollars to buy up front but after that you're good...no weekly spending on diapers.
