N00b question. UTI common with pregnancy? Embarassed.

Question

Turns out I have one despite having no symptoms. :/ The nurse suggested it was fine but they will put me on antibiotics for 7 days. I'm allergic to penicillin so its macrobid macrocrystals - monohydrate. 
A little taken aback and embarrassed. Anyone have experience with this?

Don't  be embarrassed! I used to get UTIs a lot when I wasn't pregnant....drink cranberry juice! Good luck mommy 2 be

Thank you all for the reassurances. I've never had one before , and had no symptoms,  and I'm sure my initial reaction of tears and " oh no! What did I do wrong? What have I done to the baby? " was fueled by hormones. 
Started the antibiotics right away and feel silly for the mini freak out.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. Even if you were not pregnant. There are a wide variety of causes of UTI and only some of them are hygiene-related.

I've always gotten them since I was very young (born w/ 3 kidneys, 3rd had tumors) I've always had to drink lots of water and cranberry juice. Don't hold your pee in, always empty your bladder before and after sex, and do what your dr says. I hope you feel better! They suck bad! And congrats on your baby! :)

I get them all the time when I'm pregnant and they are always asymptomatic, this is so common OBs test your urine every month to catch them. Nothing to be embarrassed about, its not a reflection on you or your hygiene!

Utis are very common in pregnancy and notmal to get even if your not pregndnt. I get them often and have taken macrobid before too. It safe for pregnancy as far as I have heard and I never got bad side effects from it. It's important to clear it up asap.

Yep. I get them with every pregnancy. Usually no symptoms. Make sure you're hydrating well.

I had one I just got done taking my antibiotics yesterday it is pretty common I was told she just told me to use the bathroom right way the ones I took I don't need to eat before I took them and they didn't make me feel sick or anything it should be fine just remember to take them as told and finish the bottle
