Third degree tear??

Question

Ok, so with my first child I had an unmedicated child birth with a third degree tear. My chunky girl was 8lbs 6oz. My question is has this happened to anyone else/ does anyone know much about it? I wanted to know if the risk of tearing again (or worse :) is greater if you already tore pretty badly before? Anyone have a similar situation? My daughter will be three in February and I am pregnant now, and just now thought to look up what exactly third degree is. And have scared myself to death. The next step up is a fourth degree, and I'm freaking out lol. Now I have an explanation for the little bump of scar tissue (I thought it was just a non annoying hemorrhoid) I didn't realize the degrees were the length of tearing but rather the depth of internal tearing. Ease the baby out at the pushing phase. Most women tear because we hurry up with pushing once the baby is crowning. Crowning should be slow, if possible, to stretch our bodies. 
Eat healthy, exercise, drink lots of water, and have someone apply a warm towel and oil to your pireneum while pushing

I ended up with a third degree with my first. It started as a second degree episiotomy that extended. My I doesn't routinely do episiotomies but my little girls heart rate decided to drop very low and we needed to get the baby out right away! She hasn't said anything about tearing this time. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Side note: my mother had an almost 4th degree tear with my brother and then didn't tear with me or my younger brother. She always says he plowed the way for both of us and the next two deliveries were way easier!

Yes it makes a big impact, because instead of rotating naturally and sliding out, the back of their head puts pressure on your perinium and forces through

I had a 4th degree tear with my first (8 lb 10oz) and am so nervous it's going to happen again! I am going to ask my doc about perineal massage at my next appt because I've heard that can help prevent tearing. Good luck!

With my first I had an epidural and I didn't tear at all, she was 9lbs 15 ounces. Now pregnant with my second and a little scared I will this time around...

I wonder, too! I had 4th degree tearing and episiotomy with my 9 lbs 11 oz baby boy. It was 2 and a half hours of pushing. I honestly didn't even think about it being an issue until I saw your post here! My doc has never said anything about it and we're trying to conceive #3 right now (#2 was miscarriage).

I had a third degree tear with my 1st too. My Dr. said that the skin is already compromised and not as strong as it originally was so i will tear again.  He said it was very important for the delivery Dr or midwife to support the area during birth.

I had a 4th degree with my first (8lbs 13oz) I was scared to have another for a while, I had intended on a planned c section because I don't want to risk bowel trouble. But my OB thinks I've healed very well and has encouraged me to try for a vaginal delivery. I'm scared, but it's ok. Seriously, the recovery took a long time with the stage 4, but I can honestly say I would do it all again, hopefully I won't have to, but I'm willing to.

I'm in the same boat, I have a 3 year old and I'm pregnant now. I had a pretty bad tear and pushed for 3 hours. I'm pretty nervous about this delivery too :/
