Would you invite a family member to your wedding if they hadn't been there most of your life?

My father wants me to invite my grandfather ( my mum's dad) to my wedding. However I don't know whether to or not. I would see him once a year till I was 8 years old then I didn't hear from him or see him for 10 years. Since then I have only seen him 3-4 times in the last 5 years and each time I have had to contact him and make the arrangements to suit him. I don't want to upset my dad but I feel like it would be like having a complete stranger being invited to the day. What would you guys do?? Seriously need advice.
