Painful sex

I started to have sex with my long term boyfriend. I had some discomfort the first few times but nothing bad. Every other time after that I bleed a bit and it hurts so we have taken a break. It's embarrassing for me since I feel like that kills the mood. Any thoughts of why this might be? Does anyone else have similar situations or should I be concerned?
