Help !

Okay, so I need advice. I'm 17 and I'm a virgin. I sorta saved it, but now I think I'm ready to lose my virginity to this guy I've been involved with. He's 19 and experienced, but I don't know if I should just trust a condom. I want to get on birth control, but there's no way I could without my parents finding out. I'm confused. Is it worth the chance to just go with a condom only, or should I try to put myself on birth control before having sex.
