Tested positive for strep group b???

Question

I found out yesterday that I tested positive for strep group b, I had a swab taken when I went to the hospital 2 weeks ago for spotting. I'm trying not to worry but has anyone else experienced this. As soon as I go in to labour I have to go to the hospital to be put on a drip to stop the baby from being infected x

I was positive with my second baby. No issues. Went to the hospital when my water broke and got iv antibiotics until he was born. He was perfectly fine and is a happy and healthy 6 year old now. A lot of people are carriers of group b

Most people have Group B strep bacteria present, what they are testing for is overgrowth. As you know, your vaginal flora change all the time. It's unusual that they tested you so early, because the infection could easily clear up before you have baby. You could try vaginal probiotics and ask to be re tested when you get closer. Best to avoid antibiotics if you don't need them, because it's hard on yours and baby's gut flora. The chance of something bad happening even without antibiotics is quite low.

My sister in law tested positive and all they did for her was give her antibiotics in her IV nothing scary. My nephew is a healthy little boy. With my second I went into labor early and didn't get my results back before hand so they just started me on antibiotics anyway during labor just incase. I wouldn't worry about it.

I got tested because I was spotting too- it came back positive- was basically told I would be tested again at 36 weeks and if that's positive I would be treated with it antibiotics while in labor and that it was nothing to be concerned about

It's very common and routine.  I tested positive with my first.  And actually my doctor said he recommends the anitibiotics to most of his patients either way just as a standard precaution.  The odds of infection are really low anyway but with the iv they are literally nill.

I have it. I found out when I was pregnant with my second daughter. Just be sure to tell the hospital staff when you go. I was already 7cm with my daughter by the time I went they just hooked the meds in my i.v. My daughter is 4 now & the worse she's ever been to sick is a runny nose & sneezing.

I tested positive with my first...had IV antibiotics (clyndamiacin) during labor, nothing major or scary.  With my second, I tested negative, but my water broke at 34 weeks (high, slow leak), so when I had her at 35 weeks, I was told I had to get the IV drip again because it's routine to get it if you're before 36 weeks.  I tested negative again with my 3rd and didn't have to get the antibiotics at all with him.  Just check with your doctor about hospital policy for giving birth before full term, and when they give you the routine test in the office...it's better to know what's standard for your practice, especially if you're allergic to clyndamiacin.

I tested positive with 3 out of 4 births and I'm pregnant again so they are just going to do antibiotics with thus one to your baby will be fine none of my kids had any problems after birth
